Our work

Where we work and what we run

Nine communities across Kontagora Emirate. Placement follows need, not convenience.

Communities we serve

Current need by community

We publish community-level need only. Individual schools, class schedules and children's details are never published — see our safeguarding policy.

Programs

Catch-up literacy and numeracy

Weekend and holiday classes for children who have been out of school for a year or more, taught in Hausa first.

Guest professional classes

One-off sessions by doctors, lawyers and engineers so children meet someone doing the work, not just reading about it.

Girls' continuation support

Targeted support at the primary-to-secondary transition, where most girls in the Emirate stop.

Teacher shadowing

Volunteers work alongside the existing school teacher rather than replacing them — no unsupervised contact during a first placement.

Community re-enrollment

Ward heads trace out-of-school children. We handle the classroom.

  1. 1. Ward listing

The ward head and school head jointly list children currently out of school.

  2. 2. Family visit

A female community volunteer visits each family, in Hausa, to agree a return date.

  3. 3. Placement

The child returns to the government school; our volunteer supports the class for a full term.
